Bloomberg Philanthropies’ beautiful asphalt art initiative has been launched in European cities, thanks to its own findings in addition to the Sam Schwartz study. These studies revealed some amazing statistics about repairs and maintenance on asphalt at intersections in urban areas.
Every European cities that have populations of greater than 100,000 are encouraged to apply until 11 July 2022 to expand this scheme into Europe. At the end of the quarter 2022, winners will be declared. The work on the projects could start in 2023. The stunning asphalt art grant will be presented to the winning artist. They also get the chance to receive advice through Bloomberg Associates and AMAT (City of Milan’s Agency for Mobility, Environment, and Territory). The development into Europe follows on from the two grant rounds that were granted from both the U.S. and Europe between 2020-2021. Within the United States, a total of 45 asphalt art initiatives across 41 cities took place as well in Europe three cities were selected for the asphalt art pilot project including Amsterdam (Netherlands), Glasgow (Scotland), and London (England).
